The train was built by a mechanical engineer who was a vice president of Barkley & Dexter CO. in Connecticut. He spent approxiamately eight years building the train and tract. We were told that it would take one day to complete a six foot section of track. For many years the train was set up at his home. In 1955 he moved to a lake in Lunenburg, Ma and in 1960 an Antiques Owner in the area purchased the train and put it in his shop for the next 27 years. In 1987 the shop owners son purchased it from him and has stored it at his home. The train has not been run by steam for over 40 years. Although it has on at least three occasions been tested with compressed air. There is no reason to believe that the boiler is not in excellent condition but it should be hydrostatically tested before it is fired up again. Replacement cost have been figured from information taken from a catalog published (1987) by Little Engines, Steam Driven Locomotives, 2135-37 250th st., Lomita, Ca 90717
Total Replacement cost estimated to be approximately $11,000 in 1987. Current cost would be closer to $16,000- $18,000.
